How we compared the companies

The ratings below are the average score out of 5 shown on each company's 12Go page, based on reviews left by travellers who booked and took the trip. We read them on 7 October 2026. We also give the number of reviews: a 4.5 based on 3,000 reviews tells you much more than a 4.8 based on a few dozen.

Routes, seat types and fares come from the 12Go listings for a departure on 24 October 2026, on the 27 routes of our price survey. We have no commercial link with any bus company: we earn a commission when you book on 12Go, whichever operator you choose.

Our take, company by company

HK Buslines — the reference for long night buses

4.5/5 on 3,356 reviews, one of the best scores among large operators. It sells single cabins (upper or lower) on Hanoi → Sapa, Hue, Da Nang and Phong Nha, and was the leader on Hue → Phong Nha with 72 departures at €12.75.

G8 Sapa Open Tour and Sao Viet — the Sapa specialists

On Hanoi → Sapa, G8 listed 135 departures (€16.85–20.32, 4.5/5 on 2,511 reviews) and Sao Viet 107 (€16.85, 4.4/5 on 1,393 reviews). G8 also lists departures from Noi Bai airport.

Airbus and Giant Ibis — towards Cambodia

Airbus (4.7/5, 832 reviews) had 18 departures Ho Chi Minh City → Phnom Penh at €25.23–33.97. Giant Ibis (4.5/5 on 8,914 reviews, the most-reviewed company of this page) ran to Siem Reap at €47.08–49.75.

Da Nang → Hoi An: Barri Ann and April Adventure

The busiest route of our survey. Barri Ann Travel listed 882 minivan departures at €6.29 (4.6/5), April Adventure 208 departures from €6.46 (4.6/5 on 1,277 reviews), including from Da Nang airport.

FUTA Bus Lines — the big southern network

FUTA had the most departures on Ho Chi Minh City → Can Tho (283) and Da Lat (174), leaving from the city's bus stations (New Eastern, Mien Tay). Rated 4.2/5, but on only 72 reviews on 12Go.

Hanh Cafe — cheap, many reviews, average score

300 departures Ho Chi Minh City → Mui Ne from €7.58, rated 4.0/5 on 2,158 reviews. A solid budget option; Nam Hai Limousine (4.4/5) was in the same price range on that route.

Grouptour — everywhere, but the lowest score

Grouptour sells shared seats on many routes, from Ha Long Bay to Vientiane and Nanning, often among the cheapest. Its 3.7/5 on 3,411 reviews is the lowest among the most-reviewed operators: compare before booking if comfort matters.

Read small numbers carefully

Some well-known names have few reviews on 12Go: FUTA Bus Lines (4.2/5 on 72 reviews) and Tan Quang Dung Buslines (3.4/5 on 67 reviews, on Hanoi → Hue, Da Nang and Phong Nha). For several limousine operators, such as DK Limousine and Son Hai Limousine on Hanoi → Ha Long Bay, we could not read any rating. No rating does not mean a bad company — just that 12Go has little or no feedback to show.

How to read a rating before you book

  1. Look at the number of reviews. 4.5/5 on 3,356 reviews (HK Buslines) is more reliable than a high score on a few dozen.
  2. Compare on the same route. On Hanoi → Sapa, regular seats from the main companies ranged from €9.28 (Inter Bus Lines) to €30.79 (VietNam Travel Bus cabins), private vans excluded.
  3. Check the seat type. Single cabin, double cabin, sleeper or limousine van are very different experiences.
  4. Check the pick-up point. Many companies leave from their own office or pick up at hotels — see our companies and departure points guide.
  5. Compare prices too. Our Vietnam bus prices page gives the cheapest and typical fare on 27 routes.

Bus companies in Vietnam: your questions

Which is the best bus company from Hanoi to Sapa?
Among companies with many reviews, HK Buslines (4.5/5, 3,356 reviews) and G8 Sapa Open Tour (4.5/5, 2,511 reviews) had the best scores, followed by Sao Viet (4.4/5, 1,393 reviews). All 3 sold seats around €16 to €20 that day.
Which company for Ho Chi Minh City → Phnom Penh?
Airbus had the best rating (4.7/5 on 832 reviews) and the most departures (18, €25.23–33.97). Danh Danh Express was cheaper at €20.79.
Are the 12Go ratings reliable?
They come from travellers who booked through 12Go and took the trip. Their value depends on the number of reviews: trust a score based on hundreds of reviews more than one based on a handful.
Is Vietnam Rail well rated?
Vietnam Rail had 4.2/5 on 1,716 reviews on 12Go. Private carriages such as NewLivitrans Express (4.1/5, 391 reviews) cost more for a more comfortable sleeper.
